The medical emergency unfolded “during the approach to the airport” of arrival in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, easyJet told French outlet Le Parisien.

The captain triggered a distress signal after he was alerted of the passenger’s condition.

The plane then “performed a routine landing in accordance with standard procedures”, according to the airline.

The passenger’s cause of death is currently unknown.

Airliner easyJet said: “Our crews are trained to respond to medical issues and did everything possible during the flight.”

They added: “Our thoughts are with the passenger’s family and friends and we extend our full support and assistance to them during this difficult time.

“The well-being and safety of our passengers and crew is always easyJet’s top priority.”

The tragic death on board the flight from Nantes to Lanzarote occurred on Tuesday.

According to local media, the emergency unfolded on flight EJU4775.

A significant delay was caused on the return flight due to the ordeal.

It was previously scheduled to land at 2:45pm in Loire-Atlantique, but ended up landing eight hours later, at around 11pm.

It comes after a man died onboard an easyJet flight that was heading to London.

The plane was en route to Gatwick Airport from Cyprus in November 2022 when a man, aged around 50, became ill mid-flight.

Desperate attempts to resuscitate the passenger using a defibrillator sadly proved unsuccessful.

Flight EZY8454 was largely full with holidaymakers, carrying them home from some winter sun in 24C Paphos.

It set off from the Greek island at 2.20pm local time before fear for the man’s welfare was sparked at around 3.40pm GMT.

Eyewitnesses say the man appeared to be travelling alone and was unable to be woken up.

Passengers were held on landing at Gatwick for paramedics to board and pronounce the man’s death.
