Star Warslatest show has introduced three new Jedi legends that may hint at the Jedi’s future. Like most Disney+ Star Wars shows, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the New Republic era, a few years after the official dissolution of the Empire. During this time, a new government, formed from the remains of the Rebel Alliance, has taken control of the galaxy, hoping to rectify the damage done by Palpatine’s dictatorial reign and develop and maintain a strong sense of peace and prosperity for everyone.

Of course, the Rebellion was helped by multiple Jedi during the Galactic Civil War – Luke Skywalker was by no means the only Jedi operating in the galaxy during that time. As such, outlawing stories about the Jedi is unnecessary. In fact, they would probably be encouraged, as evidenced by one of Skeleton Crew’s youngsters happily reading Jedi legends in his spare time. These legends, originally depicted in Star Wars’ written language Aurebesh, were recently translated by X user Star Wars Explained, and one legend in particular may tell us more about the Jedi’s future.

The Sith In The Cave Sounds Just Like Dagobah

The first legend introduces a Jedi called Lina as she encounters a Sith Lord in a dark and forsaken cave. According to the translation, “Lina was not afraid. She ignited her lightsaber, its blue glow lighting up the darkness. Ready for what lay ahead.” Suddenly, a Sith appears in front of her, dressed in “dark robes”, wielding the iconic red Sith lightsaber. He says that Lina “should not have come here.” Of course, the Jedi have faced the Sith hundreds of times throughout the millennia, so there’s nothing too surprising about this first Skeleton Crew legend.

However, this legend does feel reminiscent of what Luke Skywalker experienced during his training with Yoda on Dagobah. As Luke enters the cold, desolate cave in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda explains that the dark side is strong and may play tricks on Luke’s mind. While in the cave, Luke has a vision during which he duels with Darth Vader. What if Jedi Lina’s encounter with the Sith was merely a vision in the Dagobah cave, as well?

Druin In The Forest Speaks Of Confronting Monsters

The second legend Skeleton Crew’s Wim reads on his tablet is about a character called Druin who sets off on an adventure. During his adventure, Druin visits a Force-rich forest, where he finds an abandoned wood chopper’s hut. According to the translation, Druin finds a “strange, beautiful flower” in an old food trough until he feels a disturbance in the Force and prepares to fight a “fearsome beast.”

Given Druin’s solitary adventure, it’s possible he was a Wayseeker Jedi; Wayseekers mostly operated outside the council’s jurisdiction and instead embraced their connection with the Force during an individual journey. It’s also possible that Druin was an Order 66 survivor, forced to survive in the galaxy by himself after the fall of the Jedi Order. Perhaps the monster Druin fights is a sign of what’s still to come for the Jedi. Does this monster represent the return of the Sith, or something even more sinister? What if it’s one of the Drengir, a carnivorous, dark-side plant species introduced in Star Wars: The High Republic?

The Temple Fortress Shows The Jedi Will Always Return

The third and final Jedi legend Wim reads during Skeleton Crew’s premiere is perhaps the most indicative of what the future holds for the Jedi. It describes how multiple Jedi Knights decided to “build a temple fortress” and used the Force to do so. The fortress could be hidden within the ground, despite boasting “soaring towers,” and the Jedi found peace and solace there. The translation states, “When the galaxy called for heroes, the valiant order did not hesitate. Their fortress rose back up to the surface, and they stood ready to fight for justice and peace.”

This particular legend, even more so than the other two, beautifully summarizes what Star Wars is all about. Though the Jedi may have been mercilessly slaughtered by Palpatine and the Empire, and the darkness took over the galaxy for a while, the light, and the Jedi, by extension, always prevailed. The Jedi will always return when needed, honing their connection with the Force and finding the strength to fight against the galaxy’s darkest forces.

The Jedi will always return when needed, honing their connection with the Force and finding the strength to fight against the galaxy’s darkest forces.

These legends can be applied to any situation involving the Jedi, but they also predict what we partially already know. After the New Republic fell and the First Order revealed itself, the Jedi returned, led by the sequel trilogy’s Rey Skywalker. She faced the power of the Sith, she faced her darkest nature, and in the upcoming, tentatively titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie, she will rebuild the Jedi Order, just as the Jedi built a new Jedi Temple in the third and final Star Wars legend.
