G’morning and happy Friday. A shout out to all of our vets and those in the armed services.
GM Ken, Hope you have a good weekend coming up.

GM IBD team! Always nice to start the trading day with you guys!!
Likewise!

hi , is Tesla a buy or a sell here thx
I shorted it yesterday.

Good morning everyone!
GM Payam

Dan, we can’t see the guitars.
LOL. They’re on the wall…just not on camera!!

GM IBD Live!!!
GM, good to see you.

Good morning everyone and welcome Dan!!
GM and welcome to you as well.

Thank You. US Coast Guard 10 years.
Thank YOU!

Thank You. US Coast Guard 10 years.
That’s terrific. I salute you, Christopher!

Thanks to those who served! Go Browns.
My sentiments exactly! Go BROWNS!

Nice Brownies hat Hatman
Hey Emilio, thank you very much! Hope you are well!!!

Ali – put TSLA in the penalty box. I wonder if Musk watched that clip on Fox Business
Haha never know

Hey I saw rumor on X that oil production here in US is at 13.2 Mil barrels / day. Is there a site to confirm this?
The U.S. EIA is a good place to start, but lags current production by a couple months https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=mcrfpus2&f=m

Good Morning to all the folks at IBD…
GM and thnx for watching.

can you repeat the stocks again just joined missed
FIX MELI NVDA

Thanks Ali, we appreciate you,
We’re lucky to have her

There’s Whiskey in the jar’o
A little kick to start the day

Hey Dan, that music to my ears. Glad you with us today!
Nice to be here, Brian. Thanks!

what are Chris’s stock picks????
FIX and MELI

You should sell those!
That’s the best merch I’ve seen. Definitely need to “stock” these.

How can I get a “Cup and Handle” cup?
First I’ve seen it. Need to get marketing to make some of these.

Great to see Dan!

celh
Unlike its huge move two quarters ago, the reaction to earnings has been much more muted, eh? Knife fight betw the bulls and bears. I’d keep watch on the weekly action.

FIX, TOL – puttin’ in the handles.
Impressed w/ the strong move last week in TOL. It’s like bullish fund managers have totally changed the psychology of that chart!

CME made a nice move yesterday. Does it have the mojo ?
I had been watching it the past few days but missed it yesterday.

Good morning happy Friday!
Happy Friday to you as well!

IONQ
While the sales rise in Q3 was solid, company still bleeds a lot of red ink; therefore, risk is certainly very high. Trying to hold its rising 40-week MA.

what’s more important – U/D ratio or Accum/Distrib rating?
Both are valuable. Diff formulas and time periods so don’t always match as you think they would.

GM to all, Hatman any possibility to zoom a bit??Thanks
Just zoomed in

GM from Cape Cod. GM Dan Fitzpatrick.
GM Phil!

David, Thanks for hatting today. Without it yesterday, you cost me a lot of money. Haha, but still, please keep your hat!
Ha ha!! Oh man, John, this is hilarious! I’ll do my best, whatever it takes even if my little hat helps. Cheers! Hatman

Hola!
Buenos Dias…

Why are UK, DAX & CAC down this AM????
Well, the U.S. fell Thursday afternoon. Europe is catching up.

If you’re in an uptrend you can hold them. But if the market goes sideways or down, they will lose more than their headline leverage level.

NVDA releasing new chips for China
That’s right, our colleague Patrick Seitz has the writeup here: https://www.investors.com/news/technology/nvidia-stock-hits-buy-point-on-new-ai-chips-for-china/

tapestry deal still in play but FTC has asked for monopoly related issues, so probably delayed closing
Thanks Tim. The quarterly news release affirmed the merger will get approved sometime in 2024. Not sure if Capri was hoping for a quicker close. Good point on antitrust risk. https://www.capriholdings.com/news-releases/news-releases-details/2023/Capri-Holdings-Limited-Announces-Second-Quarter-Fiscal-2024-Results/default.aspx

I get several offers for the WSJ in the mail from Barron’s/Dow Jones company, for 6 days a week delivery. Now since IBD is owned and part of the Dow Jones family, do you think/suggest they bring back the IBD paper back to a daily edition?
You have more resources now and I’d rather get an IBD daily than a WSJ daily. Just a suggestion, I still miss the daily paper! Thanks!
No plans for a daily paper but thanks for the feedback.

Any thoughts for the stochastics for the QQQ ?
Good point; Marshall, from July to Oct, we can agree that when the fast stochastic hit 80, amid the choppy market, the Naz turned lower. That was not the case, though, during a mini “melt-up” for 5, 6 weeks in May-June.

Is there a moving average Line that can be used on IBD 5Min. etc. charts
Not possible currently

which I can see face ripping rally with Dan, I missed it.

UBER for the BREAKOUT
A great day for UBER holders, up 7% for the week after last week’s game-changing rally.

Is Dan looking at monthly cup w/handles?
Given that he’s an O’Neil disciple, I would suspect yes. https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/deep-cup-with-handle-can-work-in-bear-market/ + https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/the-basics-how-to-analyze-a-stocks-cup-with-handle/

ANF is the stock Dan was likely talking about
ANF has been awesome; James, what’s really interesting now going forward is a test of long-term resistance near 80-85, going back to the mid 2000s!

CWCO, David Ryan mentioned earlier in the week, nice earnings reaction!
Indeed! Wow what an interesting two days. I wonder if David R added shares.

What was the name and symbol of the MINN. company that make electric motor magnets without rare earth ?
Here you are Larry: On Wed 11/8: GM and Stellantis’ VC arms have joined a $33M investment in Niron Magnetics, a Minn co that is developing technology to make magnets for EV motors that do not use rare-earth metals. GM says the investment helps
GM locate in EV supply chain in NAm, important for U.S. federal tax credits.

Dan that’s what David R always tells us – OK you missed the first move – don’t miss the second!
Solid advice.

Right now, I own a dozen stocks, all based on IBD LIVE and they’re all up. Thanks, guys. Y’all are the best thing that’s ever happened to my trading.
Awesome! Great to hear.

ACGL is an example of a failed breakout
Indeed. Made a few % on it but it looked more promising. Bouncing off the 21 day now however?

UBER breakout seems to be working

Dan, thanks for sharing the thoughts that go through your head, esp. ones that haunt us when we miss an entry that result in big moves.
Good stuff

If you look at ANET riding the 50DMA a great place to enter
Even there, ANET has some scary, short-term tumbles below the 50-day.

New 52 week highs/ lows is a good indicator if breakouts are working; still negative (more new lows than highs)
596 NL vs. 285 NH yesterday

Dan: good morning. If you buy breakout and fail. How many days you allow to observe before you sell it?
That’s a great Q. I wish we had a chance to ask him, but I would suspect the 1% portfolio risk rule stands above everything.

Chris, so what should the AD lines look like at the bottom???
They should rising, confirming the action in the indexes.

KLAC blue dot entering a buy zone
Looking good. AMAT earnings are next week, btw.

Dan….you mentioned IBD 50….do you use that watch list more than others
Not necessarily. I look at several watch lists that I keep updated. But $FFTY is something I look at very regularly, and I track the IBD 50 stocks. When they are all in sync it’s a powerful signal. Hope that helps, James.

Thoughts on PANW
will look at that shortly

Does the panel consider PLTR a undercut and rally set up off today’s open? Is 18.44 still an important level, or today’s low and closing above rising 10 day?
I would use Tuesday’s high of 19.17 at this point. I was hoping for PLTR to hold steady today so it could form a weekly handle.

Would you buy a call option for NVDA?
I’d only do that with a hedge. Bull call debit spread. Just a naked call is pretty risky. But with a higher strike short call, you’ve financed that long call. Hope this makes sense, Marshall.

Liked Dan’s analysis and perspective on NVDA

Is there a way to tell which funds are in the IBD Mutual Fund Index? Thanks
Yes, ticker 0MUTI (zero-MUTI) in RI panel Funds in Index button.

Reinstalled my OS and now text is quite small on marketsmith. How do I size it back up?
I’d try system settings to see if that does anything. If it’s just MarketSmith only, on the browser you can zoom in — On Chrome, click the 3-dot hamburger menu, then mouse down to Zoom

CELH?
Watching, would love to see it tighten up. 3 for 1 split happening next week

is that a handle in MELI?
Should be after today.

Dan, you must like UBER then
Yeah. I haven’t really been tracking it…BUT, you point out a good one! I’ll cover that in this afternoon’s Strategy Session on my website. Thanks for the idea.

Thoughts on ANET? Is this down on normal digestion or due to related stocks?
ANET gave some guidance last night in an investo day event. Generally in line, but somebody didn’t like something – or saw an excuse for profit taking.

How would you handle ELF?

Panel, pls comment on $SNOW. Thx
Got a DDOG boost earlier this week. A move above Tuesday’s high of 162.50 could offer an aggressive trendline entry. 166.43 also might work. A lot of resistance in the 170-190 area.

Love this show! Been listening since Covid days. I’m an IT consultant and off for Veteran’s Day today so my feet are up on my desk, IBD live on my phone and MarketSmith on my computer. But my laziness has me groaning every time I have to sit
up and type a ticket into the charts I think Chris and Scott should collaborate to have a real-time updated list of the current stock being reviewed. Like a Happy Days / Laverne and Shirley crossover, IBD Live meets MarketSmith!
A feature to link to Ali’s typing would be nice. Have our local MS follow her charts?

What is the deal or news with on NVDA and China, did they releases a new product they can sell there?
“Basically, NVDA is set to sell a series of AI chips designed for customers in China that comply with U.S. export restrictions. Shares are climbing on the news as investors see a large potential market in China. You can read the full writeup
here:

https://www.investors.com/news/technology/nvidia-stock-hits-buy-point-on-new-ai-chips-for-china/”

Thank you, Dan, for explaining your option strategy. Great way to use leverage with risk management. Justin/Irusha: he is a great candidate for your podcast.

I think that market maker move is only for the next contract expiration (today’s change)
Right. Actually, I think the MMM only takes TODAY into account…but you can fact check me on that. The IV number on the right edge of each contract expiration is the market’s assessment of how much the stock is expected to move until expiration.
Example: Dec 8th expiry has +/-58.09. So the options market expects a max move up or down of around $58. Make sense?

I hear MELI compared to AMZN all of the time but MELI has no AWS, MELI has no AI
MELI is a big payments player, though.

ANET post-EPS action?”
live answered

Chris, do you always start at 5% position?
In a strong bull market I will go with 10% and sometimes even higher.

AIR (AAR Corp, in Aerospace/Defense) is just now entering the blue, Marketsmith pivot zone, and it’s a blue dot with a 93 RS. But it’s average daily volume is a paltry 194,500. Should we ignore the blue dot when liquidity is so low? Earnings estimates are good, and next report is 41 days out.

why is ‘tight action’ so important for a potential move?

Nice action. Much like DKNG, VERX was an earnings breakout that offered entries in the morning as it gained momentum vs. an immediate massive gap up.

CELH crossing below to 50 day. Not liking this action
Wild intraday swings, but the daily closes have been (relatively) tight. Seems like investors should wait until it clears this week’s highs.

Hey, just noticed that Chris is in the office!
Should we send him on vacation again to keep the uptrend going?

any news on ANET? Pre was wild
Arista gave some guidance at an investor day event last night. Seemed OK, but some big overnight losses and some decent losses today. https://www.investors.com/news/technology/arista-networks-stock-falls-following-investor-day-updated-outlook/

Dan: Thank you for gap up theory . I also adapt to Bollinger band concept. Thanks again
Bbands are key. My number one required indicator — along with the 50- and 200-day moving average and volume. That’s really all you need.

To Dan’s point, NVDA drifted 3 weeks before it made another move after the 2/23 gap up on earnings. Great Show. Thanks To All.
Thanks Michael. Happy to have you here.

Dan speaking of Cup W/ Handles, so many home builders have that look. Thoughts on DFH, DHI, PHM, LEN, TOL?
“I see what you’re looking at. But the pullbacks were pretty steep, which is probably going to make for lots of supply on rallies…which would cap the gains.

BUT…they could definitely work, Emilio. thanks for the question.”

Dan…do you ever use GTC trailing stops?
Yep. These days, I use those a lot…but I DO check them every day.

Great point on the gained momentum, Ed! Would you prefer this than a gap up? Thank you.
Well, if I already own a stock, gap ups are great! But I’ve always been reluctant to buy gap ups – even though that can signal real game-changing power.

Wow, powerful discussion about the unappreciated stop-loss. More thoughtful than merely “set it -8% below your entry”. Thanks, Dan.
Thanks Kenneth. Glad this idea works for you.

WFRD Tuesday, bad break of 50-day, 10-wk. But, has made a nice recovery, back above its 50, 21, 10-day lines. Volume light during its recovery.

SMCI added to IBD 50 yesterday. Any comments
Definitely a stock to watch. Thu.’s high might offer an aggressive entry. Might be early entries around 290+. But this is a high beta name. It gets moving fast up and down, greatly outpacing the market either way.

Great Session! Thanks Team!!
Thanks for watching. Glad you’re enjoying the show.

What is wrong with step stepper?
Chris doesn’t like ’em. The issue with ANET stock is that it has a tendency to fall back into the prior base – making it hard to buy a breakout and hold it until the next move up.

We’re often counselled not to chase stocks, so why would you guys buy PLTR that’s up 5% today and a whopping 19% above its 50MA?
Because my stop is at the low of the day and it’s also a small starter position.

What is your stop on PLTR?
Low of the day.
