A Rightmove study, which is in its 13th year now, has determined which areas in the UK are the happiest places to live in.

This research used data from 35,000 participants across Britain with residents answering a series of questions to determine how they feel about the area they live in.

Factors used to score their answers included how proud they feel about where they live, their sense of belonging in this area, whether they feel they can be themselves there and community spirit.

Other factors included whether residents can earn enough money there to live comfortably, public transport, sports and recreation and the region’s artistic and cultural activities.

According to the research, Woodbridge in Suffolk has been voted the happiest place to live in in the UK.

“The happy mood of residents is a reflection of the vibrant town centre,” said mayor of Woodbridge, Councillor Robin Sanders.

Residents scored the town high for factors such as feeling they’re able to be themselves in the area, community spirit and locals’ friendliness.

They were also impressed with Woodbridge’s access to essential services including schools and doctors.

Jamie Curran, director at IP Properties, said: “The amenities Woodbridge has to offer in my eyes are second to none; having boutiques, coffee shops, public houses and highly reviewed restaurants all within walking distance of each other is amazing.”

Second on the happiest place in the UK is the London borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Richard Upon Thames slipped from first to second place this year, and a previous winner, Hexham in Northumberland, came in third.
