Police have launched a new appeal in a bid to find the mum of a baby who was found covered in snow last month.

The remains of a newborn baby girl, which officers named Ava, were found near Ashtons Field, Salford, on November 20.

It’s been over a month since a dog walker made the tragic discovery of Baby Ava’s remains, and Greater Manchester Police have issued a new appeal to help find Ava’s mum.

The cause of death for the baby has not been discovered yet, but ‘all lines of enquiry’ are being followed.

Police also said gifts and tributes left at the scene for Baby Ava have been donated to different charities and care homes.

DCI Charlotte Whalley said: ‘We are still committed to establishing who Ava’s mum is and the full circumstances that led to her and Ava being separated. Our determination to get answers for Ava is unrelenting and will continue throughout the festive period and beyond.

‘We ask anyone who may have information which could help us, no matter how small, to come forward to us, as this may provide the key to unlocking the investigation.’

The Sun reported that police hope they can extract DNA from a piece of pink fabric found on the scene, which could lead to the identity of Ava’s mum or a family member.

But police are still worried about the welfare of Ava’s mum, who may have been ‘distressed’, causing her to leave her baby.

Botanists, anthropologists and archaeologists are also understood to be working with police as they try to find out more about Ava.
