A busy UK airport has issued a stark warning for the passengers flying during the festive period. Manchester airport has advised passengers about the strict security rules, it has been reported.
Many people will be flying to visit family for Christmas or bringing home gifts from abroad.
However, passengers must still adhere to security measures, particularly if they are traveling with hand luggage only.
The airport has reminded passengers that they need to comply with liquid limits for cabin bags, reports Manchester Evening News.
In a post on X, the airport said: “Are you taking Christmas gifts on your travels? Make sure that any liquid gifts that are over 100ml are placed in your check-in luggage.”
Another tip the airport has issued to passengers is to make sure they leave presents unwrapped until their destination.
Liquids in your hand luggage need to be in labelled containers of 100ml or less and placed within a resealable clear plastic bag. One festive item which can catch people are out snow globes, which often do not feature any measurement labels.
It means security staff can examine any items without ruining any decorative wrapping.
The airport is preparing for a busy Christmas holiday season, with approximately 1.1 million passengers anticipated to fly in or out of Manchester between Friday, December 20, and Thursday, January 2.
Remarkably, around 25,000 people are expected to travel on Christmas Day alone.
Meanwhile, Heathrow and Belfast airpots have cancelled some flights due to extreme weather conditions days ahead of Christmas.
Heathrow said around 100 flights had been cancelled on Sunday and passengers are advised to check with their airline before travelling.
A Heathrow spokesperson said “a small number” of flights had been cancelled “due to strong winds and airspace restrictions”.
The airport advised passengers to check with their airline for the latest information about their flight.
