The Outer Worlds 2 is Obsidian Entertainment’s bold and audacious follow-up to the fondly-remembered first game. It’s not Obsidian Entertainment’s only game of the year, as it is also releasing the phenomenal-looking Avowed in February. The Long-Awaited Metroid Game Is Finally Here

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the FPS of choice for Switch fans in 2025. It has already showcased its bombastic action in the reveal trailer, as well as its central villain and fascinating story, but has plenty more details to unveil across the year before it is eventually released. It is, of course, the long-awaited sequel to Metroid Prime 3, although it will likely be a standalone story or one with a few references to the previous games, in order to help newcomers understand.

While the Switch will likely get plenty of third-party FPS games across 2025, it’s great to see Nintendo finally release a first-party option, especially one as high-quality as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Despite the many delays and various issues faced throughout its development, it’s amazing that players are finally going to get their hands on the next Metroid Prime game.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire (Fumi Games)

An FPS Hybrid Of Mickey Mouse & Cuphead

Mouse: P.I. For Hire feels like a blend between Mickey Mouse and Cuphead, and frankly, that’s an amazing combination. It is a gorgeously animated black-and-white game in which players take on the role of the titular P.I. as they attempt to take out the various gangsters in their path. Of course, everyone is an anthropomorphized animal, whether that’s as a mouse or even an alligator.

While the visual component of Mouse: P.I. For Hire is definitely its primary draw, the first-person shooter gameplay looks incredibly refined in the various trailers released so far. It’s great to see an indie FPS become so hotly-anticipated, especially one as clearly passionately crafted as this. There’s a very good chance that Mouse: P.I. For Hire could end up being the best FPS game of the year.

Killing Floor 3 (Tripwire Interactive)

A Sci-Fi Zombie Shooter

Killing Floor 3 is the futuristic follow-up to the critically acclaimed and endlessly engaging zombie shooter series, Killing Floor. It promises players even more visceral and over-the-top co-op action against hordes of terrifying zombies in well-crafted maps. There is the choice of playing with up to five other players or attempting to take on the zombie masses alone in a single-player mode.

Killing Floor 3 is absolutely aiming to be the ultimate experience, and as such, offers players a plethora of new and exciting weapons with which to triumph over their zombie foes. Additionally, every enemy has been completely reworked to feel far more challenging than ever before. For fans of the previous games, or those who just love zombie FPS games, Killing Floor 3 deserves to be at the top of their 2025 wishlist.

DOOM: The Dark Ages (Id Software)

Experience The Origins Of The DOOM Slayer

With so many new guns to choose from, as well as an assortment of medieval-esque weapons – such as a buzzsaw shield – there are so many new ways for players to take down their phenomenally designed foes.

Of course, for those deeply entrenched in the lore of the recent DOOM reboot, The Dark Ages promises to offer up some enticing new details that are sure to delight. It is also taking inspiration from ’90s DOOM in the best possible way while ensuring that it still offers a modern triple-A FPS experience. DOOM: The Dark Ages will be the perfect FPS for those wanting something truly gory, extremely fast-paced, and with punchy gunplay in 2025.

Unrecord (DRAMA)

A Photorealistic Bodycam FPS

Unrecord made waves when it was first announced due to how unbelievably realistic it looked. In fact, it was so unbelievable that many called it a fake game and wrote it off completely. Fortunately, that absolutely isn’t the case, and Unrecord is a very real game that genuinely looks that realistic. It’s due to release in 2025, finally giving players an insight into its impressively detailed levels and story.

What makes Unrecord look so great is its attention to detail, including its phenomenal sound design that really helps sell the experience of playing from the perspective of a bodycam. It also just has phenomenal animations for absolutely everything, all of which clearly demonstrate this as a passion project for the developer. While Unrecord may be a little too realistic for some, it will be a dream come true for others and the perfect FPS game to play in 2025.

Borderlands 4 (Gearbox Software)

The Next Shot At Reviving The Borderlands Brand

Borderlands 4 was finally revealed during the 2024 Game Awards, and expectations are high. Gearbox Software has come out and explained that it’s ditching the crass humor of the previous games while still retaining everything that made the series so great in the first place, including Borderland’s best feature. Its story looks compelling and full of mystery and its gunplay is as punchy as it has always been.

Borderlands fans have been waiting quite a while for a new game in the series, and hopefully, the fourth entry will deliver in 2025. While the initial trailer doesn’t really show off enough to formulate a full picture, just the idea of getting a full-blown Borderlands sequel is an exciting prospect. Fans and newcomers alike will be able to hop in and collect a ridiculous pool of loot when it launches in 2025.

It comes off the back of the somewhat disastrous Battlefield 2042, a game that, while having managed to fix the majority of its issues since launch day, is still haunted by them to this day. While EA and DICE are yet to announce anything meaningful about Battlefield 6 or even release a trailer for it, there have been reports that it’s undergoing extensive playtests, which bodes well for fans.
