While many people love the idea of a white Christmas, unfortunately, the weather is expected to arrive a little later.

The UK is expected to experience seven days of snowfall as part of an arctic freeze hitting nearly every part of the country.

According to the latest weather maps, the cold weather is due to hit the areas between January 1 and January 7, with areas expected to welcome blankets of snow measuring up to 28 metres deep.

The forecasts highlight areas in Scotland, northern England, Wales, and parts of the southeast in purple, revealing the depths of the snow that is expected to arrive.

Scotland is due to be impacted by the snow the worst, with areas covered in snow ranging between 5 and 28 cm in depth.

The map by WX Charts shows areas in southeast England highlighted in white showing snowfall with purple indicating the snow settling.

As well as the snow, the weather changing will be joined by freezing conditions blasting throughout the UK. The change in the temperatures will see areas fall to as low as -7C.

The Met Office Long range forecast for December 29 – January 7 predicts a “widespread of unsettled and cooler conditions”.

It continued: “Fronts or low-pressure areas are increasingly likely to cross the country, bringing an increased threat of heavy rain. As colder air from the north progresses southwards, the risk of sleet and snow increases, especially in northern areas.

“Temperatures will start around average but will become slightly below average for most, though milder interludes are possible in the south. While there is moderate confidence in this trend, confidence is low for the exact positioning of any systems, which will be crucial in determining which areas see rain or snow.”

Those travelling after the Christmas period and around New Year should take extra precautions, as getting around in these specific weather conditions can be challenging and sometimes dangerous.
