Major update on huge UK city incident as police say person ‘seriously injured’

Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a major update on a large-scale incident that saw emergency services swarm a peaceful area tonight.

Multiple reports on social media saw local people in the West Hoe area of Plymouth expressing their fears of a wide-scale incident after a girl was believed to have been stabbed and armed police were seen storming a block of flats.

Witnesses reported seeing a person being administered CPR in the South Devon city and a paramedic said their “thoughts with the victims and my colleagues who are having to deal with it all.”

Now, in a fresh statement tonight, Devon and Cornwall Police have said: “Police are currently responding to a report of a serious assault in the West Hoe area of Plymouth.
 

“Officers were called at 8.55pm on Wednesday, 22 January after a person was found seriously injured in the street on West Hoe Road. They were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Derriford Hospital.
 
“A large number of police units remain on scene conducting extensive enquiries and searches in the area to locate a male suspect. The pair are believed known to each other. A scene guard remains in place on West Hoe Road and the road has been closed.”
 
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “We have a large police presence in the area and enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect. We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public. We would ask members of the public to please stay away from the West Hoe area of the city while we continue our investigation.”

In a statement earlier this evening, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed there was a “serious assault” in the West Hoe area.

The Force Incident Manager said: “We are dealing with a serious assault at the scene. Members of the public are being asked to stay away. Officers remain at the scene.”
