On Friday morning, Pope Francis welcomed the President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono and her husband in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

The 20-minute long meeting addressed topics of international relevance, such as challenges linked to migration, the conflict between Israel and Palestine as well as Russia and Ukraine.

President Spiteri Debono gifted the Pope a Tecar therapy device. Tecar therapy, an acronym for Capacitative and Resistive Energy Transfer, is a rehabilitation tool that sends medium frequency electric currents through tissues of the human body.

The device will be used in the ambulatory of the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Service of Charity. The aim is to offer physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation treatment to homeless people, who often suffer from inflammation and musculoskeletal pain due to their living conditions.

Pope Francis also received a gift basket containing typical Maltese products.

In return, the Pope gifted the Maltese president a ceramic sculpture, an illustrated book of the Apostolic Palace, a collection of papal documents and a signed version of this year’s Message for Peace.
