Humans, having wasted Earth’s resources, have figured out how to travel through time. Thanks to this remarkable discovery, they choose, instead of flying into the depths of space to find a new home, to travel back to a period in Earth’s history long before humans populated the planet.

This concept proved incredibly exciting, and the show had a lot of promise. Not to mention, the series starred talent like Jason O’Mara as the lead, Jim Shannon, and Stephen Lang as Colonel Taylor. O’Mara went on to play a prominent role in shows like Agents of SHIELD, and Lang is best known for his role as the primary villain in the Avatar movies, Miles Quaritch. The show reimagined what sci-fi could be, and it looked like it could be a hit.

Dear friends proved to be traitors, the people who appeared to be the villains were revealed to be aligned with the heroes, and things got dire for the pilgrims who worked to create a new life in the ancient campgrounds of Terra Nova.

Some of the most explosive reveals include the fact that the gate connecting the past and future together was destroyed, isolating the people at Terra Nova in the past. But beyond that, the Shannon family teamed up with Taylor to resist the evil plans of Lucas, Taylor’s estranged son. This was an incredible set-up for Terra Nova season 2, and had the show been allowed to continue, it could have taken the story in incredible directions. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, and now the series remains permanently halted.
