DICTATOR Kim Jong-un has ordered schools to raise rabbits to feed and clothe his starving army.

The North Korean tyrant says the animals make excellent sources of meat — and fur to line uniforms.

It comes amid reports of his hungry troops stealing food from homes close to military bases.

A news site confirmed that rabbit breeding pens have been set up in schools in North Korea.

The country has two mass political organisations that educate young people in socialist ideology and loyalty — the children’s union for those aged nine to 13, and the youth league for 14 to 18-year-olds.

Instructors in charge of the youth league at each school have been told to meet rabbit-breeding targets.

There are few carrots but plenty of stick — as instructors who fail to raise at least 1,000 bunnies can be warned or punished.

Penalties include dismissal from their positions or expulsion from the league’s committee.

A source said: “Responsibility falls on the instructors as rabbit farm management and feeding activities are carried out through organised teams made up of children’s union and youth league members.

“The breeding rabbits are to be sent to local military units as support supplies.”

North Korea is said to have sent about 12,000 troops, including special forces, to support Russia in the Ukraine conflict since the winter.
