Google has recently added several changes to its Search feature. These updates include an AI-powered business calling feature, the introduction of a more advanced AI model named Gemini 2.5 Pro, and Deep Search for detailed online research. Changes are currently being launched to users in the United States.

Automated Business Calls by AI

When people search for local businesses such as restaurants, healthcare providers, or repair shops, they may now see an option labeled “Have AI check pricing.” Selecting this prompt instructs Google’s artificial intelligence to call the business on behalf of the user. During the call, the AI asks relevant questions, like what services are available or when a business is open. The business will know they are speaking with an AI, not a person, and the information gathered is sent back to the user’s device. This feature is available to all US users, though those who subscribe to Google’s AI Pro or AI Ultra plans are allowed more calls per month.

Google previously tested a similar automated calling feature but faced criticism over AI systems sometimes sounding convincingly human. The current version clarifies that the call comes from an automated system, not a real person.

Gemini 2.5 Pro Added to Search

The latest update allows paid users, those with Google AI Pro or AI Ultra subscriptions, to switch to the Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model within Google Search’s AI Mode. This model is described as being better at handling complex queries, including explanations of math problems, coding questions, and scientific topics. For general users, the standard AI model remains in place.

Switching to Gemini 2.5 Pro is optional and accessed through a menu within AI Mode, which also allows follow-up questions, voice interaction, and shopping assistance. For those who subscribe, the option is available, but otherwise, the default Google Search experience remains unchanged.

Deep Search for Detailed Answers

The Deep Search tool is meant to help the user who wants more detail to respond to bigger or more complex questions, such as college research, relocation planning, and large purchase comparisons. Deep Search performs numerous searches, collects items from different sources, and creates a summary of them with links to the original information. This process is not instantaneous. It can take several minutes for Deep Search to return its results, but it is intended for questions that require more than a quick answer.

Deep Search is accessible only to paying subscribers and is not the default for most users. Google emphasises that the tool is for complex topics where a standard search might not provide enough detail.

How Do These Features Work?

To use the new business calling function, users simply select the option during a search for a local service. The AI handles the call and returns the information to the user. For Gemini 2.5 Pro or Deep Search, users must have a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription and choose the option from the AI Mode menu.

These changes are part of Google’s ongoing updates to Search, integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into everyday tasks. While the business calling feature is available to all US users, the more advanced AI tools are reserved for those who pay for higher-tier Google accounts.

What’s Next

These features are currently available in the United States, and Google has not given any information related to the expansion to other regions. The company is not the only technological company that attempts to employ these technologies in user experiences, yet its benefit is a huge amount of search data that the company deals with daily, and that fact potentially affects the performance of its AI systems.

The new features demonstrate the effort that Google is putting into making Search more interactive, where links are not merely shown to websites but also incorporate in-built features. It is not yet clear whether such updates will turn into something popular or rather niche additions to the toolkit of paying customers. What is obvious is the fact that Google is still trying out how artificial intelligence can transform the use of information on the internet.
