Google is coming up with new updates to its Gemini AI assistant that aim to make conversations more personal and secure. The main additions are Personal Context and Temporary Chat, along with improved privacy controls.
Personal Context, Smarter and More Personal Conversations
This new feature of personal context is useful to save time, as you don’t need to repeat the same thing again and again. It will let Gemini remember important information from your past chats, and another feature is that Gemini doesn’t save your private chats and will delete the chat automatically after 72 hours.
The latest Gemini update gives you more control over your chats and privacy. It is useful for quick questions or sensitive topics. This feature lets you decide when you want a more personal experience and when you want complete privacy.
Improved Privacy Controls
Google is also updating its data management options, giving you more control over what Gemini stores.
Here’s the clearer and simpler version of the statements:
Personal Context remembers details from past chats.
Private chats are not saved and will vanish after 72 hours.
You can delete chats and choose what Gemini remembers.
Keep Activity asks for permission on whether you want your upload to be used to improve the service or not.
Another change is the renaming of Gemini Apps Activity to Keep Activity. If Keep Activity is on, Google may use a small sample of your uploaded files or photos to improve its services. This change will start rolling out on September 2. If you are concerned about your privacy, you can switch off the option.
Who Can Use These Features?
Right now, these new features are rolling out in select countries. Personal Context will start with Gemini 2.5 Pro. Temporary Chat and the new privacy controls will reach all users in the next few weeks.
To use them, you just need the latest version of Gemini in your country and a Google account to sign in.
How to Start Using the New Features?
Visit the Gemini website or go to the Gemini app.
Sign in with your Google account.
Open Settings to check whether Personal Context is turned on or off.
You can enable Temporary Chat to keep your conversation private.
Check the Privacy or Activity section to manage what Gemini remembers.
Personal Context will launch first with Gemini 2.5 Pro in selected countries. Temporary Chat and the new privacy tools will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
Using these features feels more flexible. Personal Context saves time by remembering past details, while Temporary Chat is handy for quick, private conversations. It is useful, as it gives you access to control what AI should remember and what it should not.
