Apple announced the launch of iOS 26 at its conference of WWDC 2025. It is expected to launch in September 2025 with the iPhone 17 series. This update brings a bold new design and smarter AI features.

When and How to Get iOS 26?

The full iOS 26 update will be available in September. Apple already released developer betas earlier this year. A public beta is also available now for anyone who wants to try the new features early. 

Steps to get iOS 26

Back up your iPhone. Use iCloud or a computer so you can restore if needed.

Join the Apple Beta Software Program. 

Enroll your iPhone. Follow the on-screen prompts to add your device to the program.

Open Settings on your iPhone. Go to General > Software Update.

Choose Beta Updates (if available), then select iOS 26 Public Beta.

Tap Download and Install. Keep your iPhone on Wi-Fi and charging until it’s fully charged.

Update as new betas arrive. Return to Software Update to install the latest beta versions.

Important: Beta software can have bugs. If you are installing it on a second (non-primary) phone.

Which iPhones Can Get iOS 26?

iPhones that are launched after 2019 support iOS 26. However, newer models are incompatible with higher-functioning AI technology. Such features as Genmoji, Image Playground, and ChatGPT require more powerful equipment. The same will only be accessible on the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16, and the upcoming iPhone 17.

A New Look Called Liquid Glass

iOS 26 has a new design called Liquid Glass. It makes apps and widgets look like they are floating on a clear background. This design changes based on light or dark mode. It gives your phone a fresh and clean look.

Real-time AI translation helps you talk or text in different languages.

Messages can now block spam texts better.

Voicemail shows short summaries so you don’t have to listen to long messages.

Genmoji lets you make your emojis by mixing faces and adding glasses or facial hair.
Image Playground helps create custom pictures using AI. You can take a screenshot and ask ChatGPT to find information or explain what is shown.

Smarter Everyday Apps

Maps and Reminders utilize AI to sort your lists and to recommend places or activities.

The Wallet can track orders by scanning your emails.

Adaptive Power Mode learns your usage on the phone to help save battery.

More Privacy and Easy Use

FaceTime can pause video quickly if sensitive content appears. This helps protect children and privacy.
Photos app now has separate tabs again. This makes it easier to find your pictures.

What’s Next?

The new iOS 26 has a new design and smart AI tools, yet they are just a slice of the larger pie Apple has planned.
