It’s the most wonderful time of the year, especially if you love a good sale. That’s because Black Friday is only a week away and there’s a very good chance that something you’ve been eyeing is about to get majorly marked down—if it hasn’t already, that is. Many retailers began discounting kitchen gear and housewares weeks ago, and we expect to see so much more go on sale as November 24 approaches. And since we’ve been keeping our eyes on prices, we’ve also been keeping a running list of what we plan to buy for our own kitchens. So if you need some add-to-cart inspo, here are the Black Friday kitchen deals Bon Appétit editors are planning to buy this year.
Coffee makers
I’m in desperate need of a new drip coffee maker to get through the holiday season, because while I love my complicated pour-over routine, sometimes I just want to press a button and have coffee appear. I’ve been debating between buying a Technivorm Moccamaster (for the aesthetic!) and one of Café’s very sleek options for months, and I’m finally ready to make a choice. TBD on what that choice actually is. –Carina Finn, commerce editor
My stepmom is still using a crusty old Keurig and I’m considering upgrading her to my favorite Nespresso machine. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t also a gift for me because my dad and stepmom live in the middle of nowhere, so when I visit, it’s either K-cups from the aforementioned crusty Keurig or my dad’s water coffee from an even crustier drip machine. – Emily Farris, senior commerce writer
A no-frills toaster
I love toast but I’ve been using a panini press/waffle maker hybrid thing to make it for the last seven years. I kept telling myself it’s fine but I stayed at a few hotels this year and using the toaster there made me realize that actually, it’s not fine. What I really want is a toaster to make properly browned toast that I can slip into my little silver toast rack and bring to the table with a side of salted butter. – Shilpa Uskokovic, food editor
A mop vac
For years now, I’ve been dreaming of purchasing a cordless vacuum and for years now I’ve watched the sales come and go, unable to commit. But we moved this year, and I’ve found myself chasing our robot vacuum around the house, directing its movements, too often too count—and I think I’m finally at the point where I think an upright or stick will save me time. And now it’s possible to get one that mops while it vacuums, so after two strong recommendations for the Tineco Floor One S7 Pro, I’m all in, and I’m sure my soon-to-be-sparkling floors will thank me for it. –Sonia Chopra, executive editor
Kitchen organizers
I’m in the mood for a total kitchen reorg and the wares in Marie Kondo’s Container Store line are practical, functional, and beautiful. So if it goes on sale, I will absolutely load up, starting with the spice drawer organizer, to the bamboo pantry bins, and the modular organizing set that would work in anyone’s kitchen. – Joe Sevier, senior cooking and SEO editor
I plan to get my new-ish place more organized in the new year, so I’m hoping some nice slideout storage bins, like these from Target’s Brightroom line, will go on sale. – S.C.
Food storage containers
I am so desperate for new Glasslock or other food storage containers—the kind with an oven-and-microwave-safe base. All the plastic tabs are snapping off of mine and no matter how many I have there are never enough! – Chris Morocco, Test Kitchen director
I hated packing my kids’ lunches until I started using these modular, dishwasher-safe food storage containers from PackIt. But I only have one for each of my two sons and since I rarely run the dishwasher until about 10 pm, I have to hand wash them, which I hate doing when I’m tired. I’m definitely going to order at least two more so I always have a clean set in rotation. – E.F.
I don’t necessarily need these retro Tupperware canisters, but I have so much nostalgia for that sunburst lid—and the monochrome green set is just so pretty—that I’m going to buy them anyway. Maybe I’ll even be able to snag some 90’s-era pricing. – E.F.
A wine fridge
I’ve done a poor job of keeping my wine for, well, forever. Lucky for me I’ve rarely had a bottle stick around for more than a couple months. This year on my 10th wedding anniversary my wife and I took our kids to the winery where we got married and I got a bottle to cellar for each of them from the year they were born. Needless to say I need somewhere to keep them, so I’m going for it with a reasonable wine fridge. That this one has two zones (for reds and whites) is a nice bonus for all my, um, quick turnaround wine. –Noah Kaufman, senior commerce editor
Replacement flatware
After I tested silverware sets last year, I started using Made In’s restaurant-quality flatware at home. It’s neutral, versatile, durable, and still shiny after a year of daily runs through the dishwasher. But I live with other people and shit happens—like a fork ending up in the garbage disposal or a spoon just randomly disappearing—so I need a few replacement pieces. It’s not available as open stock, so I was waiting for a good sale to snag another four-piece set. – E.F.
An easy way to polish silver
I have found myself in a lovely Facebook group full of people who spend a lot of time at thrift stores and garage sales collecting tableware. They swear by these wipes for removing tarnish from silver, and I’m planning to grab some to polish up some weird family heirlooms (including claw-shaped sugar tongs) for the rest of my holiday hosting. – Maggie Hoffman, contributing editor
