Passengers can be heard screaming as they slowly gather speed.
One driver, who had been following closely behind the convoy, frantically reverses to try and get out the way.
However, fellow road users are unable to do anything as they watch this horror unfold before their eyes.
The now fast-moving carriage travels for about 656 feet down Rua Dr. Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira.
It eventually comes to a halt when its collides with a parked car and two motorcycles.
Locals begin to emerge after hearing a commotion, but it’s too late to prevent what’s happened.
By some miracle none of the eighteen people on board, most of them elderly, were injured.
One of the passengers, Vera Lúcia Leite Pereira, later described the experience.
“It was a horrible, miserable experience, which really shook us up because we’re elderly.”
“It was terrible, it felt like we were going to die.”
