The body of the TikTok influencer was found strangled in a suitcase on a mountainside
Yoon Ji-ah, reportedly in her 20s, was discovered dead on September 11 in Muju County, North Jeolla Province.
Authorities say she was strangled to death and left with multiple bruises before her body was abandoned in a grassy mountain area.
Investigators believe the influencer died within 30 minutes of ending a live broadcast for her more than 300,000 followers.
They say it was filmed hours earlier on Yeongjong Island, Incheon — more than a three-hour drive from where she was found.
The timeline has sparked fears she may have encountered danger almost immediately after going offline.
Police have arrested a man in his 50s, identified only by the surname Choi, who allegedly lived a double life.
Local outlets report that Choi introduced himself to Yoon as the CEO of an IT company.
He allegedly promised to boost her social media following through a business partnership.
Choi, reportedly known online as “Black Cat”, was a so-called “big spending VIP” on livestreaming platforms – a status tied to enormous cash gifts to creators, according to Soap Central.
Media reports claim he had reached level 56 on one platform, allegedly requiring at least £53,000 (around 100 million won) in spending.
Yet, according to Korean news site Chosun Biz, he was drowning in debt and had even lost his house to a forced auction.
Entertainment outlet Kbizoom reported that Yoon had been planning to cut ties with Choi, allegedly due to his coercive demands and unreasonable schedules.
CCTV footage from the day before her death reportedly shows Choi kneeling and begging her to stay in the deal.
Yoon’s devastated mother told reporters that on September 11, security cameras allegedly captured her trying to exit a car at 3.27pm before being pulled back inside by force.
Hours later, Choi was reportedly seen dragging a large suitcase from his home and stopping at eight different locations.
His last stop was in the Muju mountains, where Yoon’s body was found.
Choi was arrested about 12 hours after the grim discovery.
He allegedly denied killing Yoon at first but later confessed, according to local outlets The Chosun Daily and Chosun Biz.
Police say the motive may be linked to Choi’s financial ruin and his obsessive spending on the influencer.
It comes after a man was arrested after allegedly ordering the brutal torture and murder of three women in Argentina.
Tony Janzen Valverde Victoriano, 20, was taken into custody after going on the run following the live-streamed murder in Buenos Aires.
Lara Gutierrez, 15, Brenda Del Castillo, 20, and Morena Verdi, 21, were subjected to what police described as “sadistic torture” after they unknowingly got into a car belonging to a violent drug cartel.
Victoriano managed to escape Argentina by crossing the border into Peru before police caught up with him.
