Although the Panamera comes with an impressive two-chamber, two-valve air suspension as standard, the optional Porsche Active Ride suspension for Panamera E-Hybrid models caught our attention.

With this equipped, the Panamera has active shock absorbers connected to an electrically operated hydraulic pump. In the dampers, the pump creates a use-case-specific volume that can quickly and accurately build up pressure between the wheels and the car’s body. This improves comfort and more effectively absorbs surface imperfections.

The active suspension keeps the Panamera flat when heavy braking, steering, or acceleration inputs are made. The system can also overcompensate pitch and roll movements, with Porsche saying the car “leans into corners like a motorcycle, leans forward under acceleration, and tilts back under breaking.”

The one-chamber air suspension complementing this setup saves weight.

Knowing how much heavier plug-in hybrids are, the Porsche Active Ride suspension sounds like it will effectively trick the driver into feeling like they’re piloting a lighter, more agile car. Of course, we’ll have to try it out ourselves to confirm its effectiveness over the standard suspension.
