He managed to swing the burning bed frame over the ledge and dangle it below before taking a perilous leap from the third floor.
The desperate escape led to a number of severe injuries to his head as well as serious burns to his face, it has been reported.
Khaled is understood to have lived in the flat in Dresden, Germany with his partner, Nancy S, and their child.
Police are yet to release an official statement, but Nancy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later detained at the Chemnitz women’s prison, BNN reports.
She was not in the flat when the fire broke out, and was previously known to German police for minor offences.
A picture of a woman sitting in the back of a car, understood to be a police vehicle, are now circulating online, along with a picture of a boarded-up door to the couple’s former flat.
The walls are burned and covered in soot, while the plastic and glass in nearby windows appear to have melted and shattered.
Answers to questions such as why Khaled was handcuffed to the bed and how the fire began are not yet known.
The social housing building is reportedly now uninhabitable with all tenants moved to alternative accommodation.
According to local media, the fire department was called out to the site about 8.45am on November 16 after road construction workers spotted the flames and alerted residents.
Investigations are continuing.
It comes after a 27-year-old beauty queen named Mayara “Maya” Nitão jumped from the balcony of her sixth-floor flat in Brazil to escape a fire and tragically died as a result of her extensive injuries.
Maya’s 23-year-old brother was hospitalised with smoke inhalation and was said to be in a stable condition.
