These incredible snaps that will have you looking twice were photographed by the eagle-eyed Roan du Plessis.
Roan, from Hoedspruit, South Africa, said: “It’s just amazing to showcase how well some of these animals can blend in.
“This specific owl we hear often, but it’s really hard to find and see due to its camouflage.”
On a first glance, it might seem like the photographer made a mistake and missed his subject.
But upon closer inspection, you might notice an owl blending with its surroundings.
Scops owls are coloured in various brownish hues, sometimes with a lighter underside or face.
The shade of their feathers help to camouflage them against the bark of trees.
Camouflage helps owls stay undetected from predators and potential prey.
And it limits harassment by other birds, which often see owls as a threat and will dive on them to drive them away.
It is incredibly difficult to spot the owl with a naked eye, but give it your best shot.
Scan the pictures carefully, looking into every nook and cranny.
