The Conners Season 6 Trailer Reveals An Unexpected Returning Character

The Conners season 6 premiere trailer reveals the return of an unexpected character for Becky. Dan and his extended family are returning to primetime later than usual because of the dual strikes that hampered Hollywood throughout the summer. Despite that, the excitement over what’s next for the beloved clan builds up as The Conners season 6 debuts slowly nears, especially in light of the release of a new trailer.

Courtesy of ABC (and first revealed by TVLine) is the first promotional video for The Conners season 6, which shows the return of Sean Astin as FedEx pilot, Tyler — Becky’s love interest.

Tyler is invited to the family poker night, suggesting that things may be getting serious between him and the eldest Conner child. Elsewhere in The Conners season 6 trailer, Darlene has an uncharacteristic emotional exchange with Dan as they come to terms with Bev’s situation.

Will The Conners Season 6 Be Its Last?

Admittedly, getting the Roseanne spin-off to five seasons is already quite impressive, considering how it started. Born on the heels of Roseanne Barr’s firing from her show’s revival, ABC opted to spin it off into a sequel, which focuses on the rest of her family. Half a decade later, the gamble proved to be a massive success, with The Conners becoming the network’s top-rated comedy. Unfortunately, while it could continue indefinitely, several members of its cast and crew have floated the idea that it’s time to end it, including John Goodman.

Understandably, it’s a tricky situation for ABC to handle. From the business side of things, they would want to keep The Conners on the air for as long as possible. However, it cannot risk any more cast departures, let alone Goodman, who plays the family patriarch, Dan. If he thinks that the show has run its course, perhaps its producers and writers should take that as a cue to how he feels about continuing the project. For context, despite its successful run, Roseanne’s final seasons were divisive. At this point, their priority should be to amend that and wrap up the franchise in a more satisfying way.

Narratively, ending The Conners in season 6 also makes sense. All major plot lines have either been resolved or are coming to their culmination, including Bev’s deteriorating health. Astin’s return as Tyler could be a way to give Becky a good swan song, especially considering what happened to her first husband.
