Still, Irving was not happy about the signs and, early in the first quarter, made a comment about them. Rabbi Zippel and the other rabbis were then asked by arena staff to put the signs away, a request that Rabbi Zippel described as confusing and upsetting. “The question is whether there is a written policy that says in courtside seats there can be no signage. And if there is, does anyone know where that policy is listed?” he said.

Typical of this season: On the night Irving returns from a right heel contusion, Exum leaves the game — with a right heel contusion. – 10:05 PM

Interesting factoid: The Utah Jazz are 11-0 this season when leading at halftime. They are up 62-55 at the break against the Mavericks, who have 15-5-7 from Luka and 9-5-3 from Irving. Jazz got 16 points from Fontecchio. – 10:04 PM

HALFTIME: Jazz 62, Mavs 55.
Fontecchio 16p, Collins 10p/4r, Clarkson 10p/6a fopr Utah, which shot 24-50 overall but just 6-22 from 3.
Doncic 15p/7a/5r, Irving 9p/5r/3a for Dallas, which went 23-49/6-20. – 10:04 PM
Eddie Sefko @ESefko
To the untrained eye, Kyrie Irving looks terrific. He’s slicing and dicing to the basket. Hasn’t shot a three-pointer yet, but has 6-3-3 with 3:30 left in the half. – 9:55 PM

Eight possessions in and the Jazz haven’t gotten the ball to Lauri Markkanen

More on this storyline

Irving had missed 12 games with the right heel injury that he suffered at the Dec. 8 game in Portland. The Mavericks went 6-6 in the games Irving missed. He said the simple things that come with healthy feet were the ones that made the injury so confounding. “Not being able to put both of my shoes on for 10 days, 12 days,” he said. “It’s an adjustment once you have that kind of injury. It was unique. I wasn’t sure how long I was going to be out. There was no structural damage. But it was achy and you realize the injury is a lot more significant when you can’t get your other shoe on.” -via mavs.com / January 2, 2024
The Celtics had ample potential to succeed with All Star-caliber players in Hayward and Kyrie Irving, along with emerging talents in Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier. Despite a seemingly stacked roster, Boston fell short in the second round of the playoffs to the Milwaukee Bucks. Making an appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, Hayward said he believes the team got in its own way. “In my eyes it was just, we all had too many agendas, and the agenda to win the whole thing was not the main one,” Hayward said. “Not to blame anyone either, because I think it was all human nature.” -via Bleacher Report / January 2, 2024
