Sophia Bush had a big year in 2023, to say the least, and she capped it off with an equally big end-of-year message. The past 12 months, “humbled me, broke me, built me, betrayed me, freed me, and showed me what it means to really be alive,” Bush said in an Instagram caption, which also referenced the “illness” which forced her to leave a West End production of 2:22 A Ghost Story, which had been her theater debut, according to People.
Also in 2023, Bush filed for divorce from her husband, Grant Hughes, and began a (rumored) relationship with pro soccer player Ashlyn Harris. What a year, indeed.

On the subject of relationships, Bush wrote in her caption (which is more essay than caption, if we’re honest), “This year sent me inward. More than I’ve ever been. It took me out of relationship with many of you but put me back into relationship with myself. I hope you are all doing well, but for this quiet and deeply personal experience I am supremely grateful.”
Perhaps in reference to all the attention her new relationship sparked, Bush wrote, “This year taught me to listen to myself and no one else. To let go of expectation that wounds and grasp possibility that frees. To not care about optics and instead invest in honesty.”
Sophia Bush also said that she spent the year “watching from the rear,” reading the poetry of Maggie Smith, and doing some writing of her own. “This year I started writing again. Almost every day.” And it shows.
