A police spokesman told The Sun: “The 63-year-old complained of feeling ill, and then collapsed.

“Emergency workers were at the scene extremely quickly, but the man could not be revived.

“He was declared dead by the Modane mountain aid station.”

Police and rescue teams are also searching for a 30-year-old woman who vanished in La Plagne on Sunday.

She went for a run in the morning and didn’t return as planned, La Dauphiné reports.

The woman was part of a group helping visually impaired people and didn’t not show up to a scheduled meeting.

Cops were called in and search and rescue teams have been combing the area.

It’s not yet known if the missing woman is British.
