Blood was seen on pieces of clothing and right by the deck stairs

Pictures show the dramatic scenes when emergency services arrive at the deck before the woman is carried in a stretcher.

A few pieces of bloody clothing were left at the deck, where the victim was rescued.

A blood stain also appears to be seen right by the deck stairs.

The attack reportedly took place in Billyart Avenue in Elizabeth Bay at about 7.45pm.

Several paramedics were on the scene, including a rescue helicopter, 9News reports.

A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance told Aussie paper the Herald: “She had serious bleeding. Her injuries are severe.

“We have a helicopter there and multiple units treating her at the scene”.

The woman was then airlifted to St Vincent’s hospital by helicopter and remains in a critical condition.

A vet who witnessed the incident is understood to have used a tourniquet to stem the bleeding before paramedics arrived.

It is still unknown what species was behind the attack.
