2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring Remains The Longest Range EV in America

Lucid Motors has announced updates for the Air Grand Touring for the 2024 model year, including an EPA-estimated range of 516 miles (despite more challenging electric range tests), faster charging speeds and improved performance in cold weather. The svelte luxury EV is also now equipped with the heat pump from the Air Sapphire, which means it can deliver higher range figures, even in chillier climes.

Lucid says it has enhanced the electric motors and battery cell chemistry to reduce energy wasted as heat, allowing the vehicle to perform at its peak, even when driven hard. Furthermore, the automaker claims DC charging times have been made faster by 15-30%, making ownership more convenient.

What Else Has Changed?

The automatic preconditioning system has also seen revisions. Used to prepare the battery before the vehicle reaches a charging station, the system allows for faster charging once the car is plugged in. Despite these improvements, the 2024 Air Grand Touring carries a more reasonable price tag of $109,900, slightly less than before.

That’s a hefty chunk of change, but the Grand Touring makes up for this with the longest range of any EV for sale in America (up to 516 miles) and impressive performance. The electric drivetrain produces a dizzying 819 horsepower, transferred to the tarmac via all four wheels. As a result, this plush sedan can scuttle to 60 mph in three seconds before reaching a top speed of 168 mph.

“The Air Grand Touring is our longest-range car – in fact, the longest-range EV available today – and is now further optimized with a multitude of powertrain updates, including the Air Sapphire heat pump,” said Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson.

Grand Touring Too Pricey?

If the $109,900 Grand Touring is too rich for your blood, Lucid offers more affordable alternatives, albeit with inferior performance and range. Well, ‘inferior’ isn’t fair, as the $69,900 Air Pure still delivers tremendous figures. With 430 hp, it could never be described as sluggish, while the estimated range of 419 miles should be more than enough for most motorists. For those seeking more performance but don’t want to sacrifice too much range, there’s the $77,900 Air Touring. With 620 hp and an EPA-estimated range of 411 miles, it’s a fine compromise between the lesser Pure and the more expensive Grand Touring.

Lastly, there’s the Sapphire. Priced at $249,000, this 1,234 hp super saloon is a true rocketship. 0 to 60 mph takes a mere 1.89 seconds, with 100 mph coming up in 3.84 seconds. The top speed is supercar-like, at 205 mph, and yet, despite all of this, it still has an EPA-estimated range of 427 miles. It’s worth noting that Lucid has plans to introduce the Gravity SUV to the market later this year.
