On Wednesday, YouTube announced artificial intelligence for its content creators on its short platform that taps into Google’s DeepMind video generation model.

The feature, known as VEO, allows users to add artificial intelligence background to the videos and use the generation prompts for stand-alone and six-second video clips.

Neal Mohan, who is the CEO of YouTube, hopes VEO will help creators produce more short videos with the assistance of artificial intelligence.

Mohan, at the Made On YouTube event in New York, following the announcement of the update, said, “Everything that we showed with AI was meant to enhance the work that you do, make it faster, more efficient, to bring your creative ideas to life faster.”

In 2023, a similar artificial intelligence feature was announced by the video-sharing platform, Dream Screen. The company stated that its VEO AI background feature is set to roll while the six-second AI clip will be available in 2025.

Other announcements include some of the new features in the YouTube studio and will allow creators to use AI-generated video, titles, and thumbnails for video ideas; they are set to be released in 2024.

The creators explore different ways of generating AI technology. They have also used a new technology that helps in inserting clips in video or AI-generated videos.

Creators Accuses YouTube Of Using Their Content to Train AI

On the contrary, the influencers have expressed concerns that YouTube is using their videos to train the artificial intelligence model that built VEO.

Thomas Simons, a comedian with more than 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube said, “I don’t know how I feel about all this AI stuff. It doesn’t fill me with confidence and love.”

Moreover, there is criticism that social media services like Facebook are being overrun by spammy, over-rated content. Additionally, there are concerns about artificial intelligence-generated content that could violate intellectual property.

Mohan, talking about the development, said, “We sit at the nexus of that technology and creativity. Putting those two things together gives us this unique lens that everything we build is really about enhancing human creativity.”
