Storm Ciarán, the third named storm of the season, is showing its teeth across the UK – and the weather is likely to stay rough for a while, if a projected map of its path is anything to go by.

Two separate amber warnings are currently in effect for wind in the far south, while yellow warnings for wind and rain are scattered around the rest of the UK.

The green lines show the direction and speed of wind that will hit the country’s shores in the coming hours.

As Thursday morning progresses, the weather gets particularly intense in two sections of the south coast.

By the early afternoon, the wind appears to be revolving around a central point somewhere in Lincolnshire.

The Met Office’s two amber warnings focus on Devon and Cornwall at one side of the country, and the south-east coast including Portsmouth, Brighton, Kent and the Isle of Wight at the other side.

Both warn that flying debris could present a ‘danger to life’, while there is predicted to be a heavy amount of disruption to travel.

In the Channel Islands, a red warning was issued yesterday and locals are being told they should stay inside as a ‘violent storm’ approaches.
