A 16-year-old motorbike rider has died after a crash with a taxi driver in County Durham.

The fatal smash happened near a junction on Park Road in Stanley, County Durham, yesterday shortly after 8pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a crash involving a taxi and a motorbike, including three paramedic crews, a doctor, a rapid response paramedic and a hazardous area response team.

They found the 16-year-old motorbike rider and a passenger of the taxi with serious injuries.

Both were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle which is located around ten miles from the crash site.

Sadly, the motorbike rider died on arrival at the hospital.

Now officers have appealed for information and anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.

Another 16-year-old boy – thought to be the passenger in the taxi – remains in hospital while the taxi driver is believed to be unhurt, ITV reports citing the police.

The road was closed for hours before reopening this morning as a probe was launched.
