The billionaire booked the grandest hotels in the Sicilian capital exclusively for a guestlist that lengths over 1,400 well-heeled people.

List of the extravagant hotels includes the Grand Hotel et des Palmes and Villa Igiea, the Mercure, Astoria Politeama hotels, as well as several B&Bs.

Even the largest opera house in Italy Teatro Massimo has been taken over for a week to accommodate his lavish events – where many renowned artists are expected to perform.

Matteo Bocelli, son of the famous tenor Andrea Bocelli and Hiroyuki Sawano, a leading producer and musician in Japan, will hit the main stage for the out-of-the-world bash.

But the real extravagance of the party was marked when Nakajima decided to book the city’s historic Teatro Politeama for a private soirée, forcing Sicily’s iconic Symphonic Orchestra to settle for a lesser venue.

To provide more space for dinner tables and dancing, a platform was constructed over the theatre’s seats at a reported cost of €37,000 (£32,000).

The extraordinary event was originally planned to mark his 70th birthday in 2020, but was postponed because of the pandemic.

The extravagant weekend matches the popular story of Nakajima,  who made his fortune doing multi-level marketing for the American multinational Amway.

In the 90s, he made history in his company by doubling the sales of roughly 750,000 distributors – and reportedly brought in 40 per cent of the company’s business in Japan.

Speaking in an interview, the billionaire quipped: “My future is so bright that it’s almost scary,” he told interviewers at the time.”

Not only a salesman, Nakajima is a talented singer and composer too, having won a prize at the Tokyo pop festival – equivalent to the Eurovision Song Contest.

He has also authored an inspirational bestseller Important Life Lessons I Learned from the Superelite.
