A man and woman have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a ‘number of people’ were attacked by an XL Bully.

Police rushed to Hickling Court in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire after reports a large dog was mauling people and was on the loose.

Officers also said the woman who was hurt fell from the window of a flat where the attack began.

The dog has since been seized by police from a nearby property and taken to secure kennels.

A 38-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: ‘The injuries sustained are not believed to be life-threatening and an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.’

XL Bully dogs will be banned in the UK by the end of this year, the government confirmed earlier this week.

From December 31, 2023, it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon, or allow an XL Bully dog to stray.

All XL Bullies must be muzzled and kept on a lead in public under the new laws.

From February 1 of next year, it will also become illegal to own an XL Bully dog unless it’s on the Index of Exempted Dogs, according to Sky News.

The ban comes after a long string of attacks by XL Bullies which have led to two deaths in England and dozens of injuries.

In October, 54-year-old Ian Langley was mauled to death near Sunderland after he was pounced on while trying to protect his own terrier pup.

His death came just two weeks after dad Ian Price, 52, was killed by two XL Bullies while trying to protect his elderly mother at her house.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses, or anyone with any information about the incident in Hickling Court to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 823 of 3 November.

The force added: ‘Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
