Police have named the driver of the Skoda who was killed in a horror  head-on-crash on the M6 last week that also left four members of the same family dead.

He has been identified as Richard Woods, aged 40, from Cambridgeshire.

The incident occurred last week at around 4pm on Tuesday (October 15) on the section of the motorway just past Tebay services.

Cumbria Police first received calls of the Skoda driving on the wrong side of the road, and then of the head-on collision.

A police spokesperson said: “We can confirm the identity of the driver of the Skoda, involved in the road traffic collision on the M6 Northbound past Tebay on Tuesday 15 October.

“The driver has been formally identified as Richard Woods, aged 40, from Cambridgeshire.”

Mum Jade McEnroe, 33, her partner Jaroslaw Rossa, 42, and his two boys, Filip, 15, and Dominic, 7 – travelling in the Toyota – also died at the scene near Tebay Services.

Ms McEnroe’s seven-year-old son Arran, the only survivor of the crash, was airlifted to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and  remains in hospital with serious injuries.

It is understood that the family had been travelling home to Glasgow from Legoland when the tragedy took place.

The crash occurred just after 4pm on October 15, following a report of the Skoda travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway.

It was then involved in a head-on crash with a Toyota.

Following the fatal crash, the mother of Filip and Dominic, Kamilla said her life “will never be the same again” following the deaths of both of her children.

In a statement released through Cumbria Police this afternoon (October 22), she said: “We are heartbroken at the passing of our beloved angels – Filip and Dominic.

“Filip was very intelligent, sensitive and full of love. We will never forget his smile, open arms, and the words “tuli, tuli” (hugs, hugs).

“He was fascinated by computer games but also incredibly good at chess. He loved chemistry and dreamed of studying at the University of Glasgow.

“Dominic was always smiling, very resolute and sociable. He was extremely caring, always thinking of others first, and the first to help if someone was in trouble.

“Always surrounded by a group of friends of all ages. He loved dinosaurs and Pokémon, but most of all he loved penguins and dreamed of adopting one. Our lives will never be the same again.”

Ms McEnroe’s parents said: “Our beloved daughter Jade, you are so loved, and we will miss you every day.

“You are a very much-loved mummy to Arran.”

Arran’s father said he would like to thank everyone for their kind messages, as well as the emergency services and members of the public who tried to help after the crash.

Cumbria Police say inquiries into the fatal collision are ongoing. The force has urged any witnesses or those with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision. Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at https://orlo.uk/IzuxI, quoting incident number 146 of October 15 2024.

“You can also phone on 101. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
