A Russian strike on an infrastructure facility in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed at least six people on Tuesday, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov.

24 others were wounded and a fire broke out at the site, he added in a post on his Telegram channel.

Later in the day, a separate Russian drone attack hit Kharkiv, damaging a five-story apartment building. Two women were wounded and received medical treatment at the scene, Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov said.

Russia has stepped up its attacks on both Zaporizhzia and Kharkiv in recent weeks, as both cities are located near the frontlines.

Zaporizhzhia is an important logistical and industrial hub and is also home to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

In Kharkiv, recent strikes have often targeted densely populated neighbourhoods.

A Russian attack on 28 October damaged the Derzhprom building, a historic landmark that has been under enhanced UNESCO protection since 2022.

On Sunday, Russia attacked another residential neighbourhood in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, injuring at least 15 people.
