A 66-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a stabbing at a busy market in London.

The attack happened on the morning of Remembrance Sunday on East Street, Walworth, and three people were seriously assaulted.

One of those people, 77-year-old Hilkiah McLeggan from Southwark, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A market stall holder who comforted the victim told The Sun: ‘There was blood everywhere.

‘The victim shouted, “I am gone. It’s the end of my life” and collapsed and died.’

The other two were taken to hospital with serious injuries and they’re both still receiving treatment, with one of them in a critical condition.

A man was arrested at the scene and was pictured being led away by police in handcuffs.

Fruit stall holder Nihad Osmam, 27, said there was ‘chaos’ in the market, with stalls abandoned.

And a shop worker who witnessed the fatal attack said the knifeman was tackled to the ground by brave market traders shortly after the third person was targeted.

Ali Musse, 66 and of no fixed abode, has now been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.

He’s set to appear at Croydon magistrates court later today.
