Police found the remains on a firing range in Zaporizhzhia, five weeks after Daniel, 36, of Manchester, vanished.
They had been led there by Abdelfetah Nourine, an Australian-Algerian fighter, who allegedly told police he had shot Daniel by mistake.
Daniel’s dad, Kevin, 62, said yesterday: “The results of the DNA test is positive for Daniel.”
Abdelfetah had claimed Daniel had returned home from the shooting range after being there with him.
But he later said in messages seen by The Sun when asked who killed Daniel: “Obviously me, but I didn’t murder the guy.”
As to why he had claimed Daniel had gone home he added: “I killed someone. I didn’t know what to do.”
Ukraine police refused to confirm whether Abdelfetah had left the country.
Abdelfetah did not respond to requests for comment.
