A record-breaking Mazda MX-5 Miata is currently for sale on Bring A Trailer. It should attract loads of attention in the coming days due to its fascinating backstory, motorsport history, and provenance.
Modified to compete in the G/GT class of the SCTA land speed competitions, this 1999 MX-5 Miata achieved a land speed record of 165.296 mph at the Bonneville Nationals in 2011. Back then, it was powered by a specially built 1.99-liter engine, which will be included in the sale.
Crafted by Marcovicci-Wenz Engineers in New York, the record-breaking motor boasts a ported cylinder head, intake manifold, individual throttle bodies, and an uprated rotating assembly. The engine had a thorough look-over before the sale, with new bearings, piston rings, and gaskets fitted.
