This report presents two reasons why F1 takes so long to allow Andretti to join the grid. The first is F1 teams don’t want to split the prize money into 11, suggesting that the GM was asked to join one of the ten current teams.

“It’s about the money. It’s only about the money,” Ben Sulayem insisted to AP. “That’s what’s personal. They don’t want to share the money.”

Sure, the prize money would be split, but an American team like Andretti should bring more revenue to the sport because of brand recognition in the US. After all, F1 owner Liberty Media has been expanding the sport stateside, adding more races to the calendar, including the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Cadillac would also benefit from the entry and be able to promote cars like the Lyriq.
