Mills who is close to his fellow Aussie Ben Simmons thinks the Nets will ultimately be fine. “You look down not only from Ben but the potential there to be able to come together as a group and do something is there, especially the caliber of what everyone knows that Ben can get to,” Mills said. “Obviously the question mark is if and when he gets there, what the team looks like so, from what I’ve seen from Ben for a short time and speaking with him on the side, he’s in a good place physically and mentally, so I’ll keep an eye on those boys.”

The Nets need multiple of these plays from Ben Simmons every night: full-tilt downhill, no hesitation, with the intent of putting pressure on the rim.
Good things will happen.
Very nice performance from Simmons. No coincidence it came in a 5-out. Look at the paint on each play. pic.twitter.com/7QLPImoToO12:00 PM

Ben Simmons has to go STRAIGHT to the rim when Kyrie Irving is covering him in a five-out.
Like, that’s non-negotiable. – 10:41 PM

This is the Ben Simmons the Nets were talking about this preseason. Attacking the rim in the halfcourt and transition.
Great 3rd quarter so far. It continues to look so much better when he’s the only non-shooter on the floor. – 10:04 PM

Great transition take from Ben Simmons faking the pas and going right to the rim.
Nice start to the third for Brooklyn. – 9:54 PM
Eddie Sefko @ESefko
Ben Simmons had only four points in the Nets’ season opener. He’s got eight three minutes into the third quarter against the Mavs (with five assists, four rebounds). – 9:53 PM

Ben Simmons is the first Net subbed out. Brooklyn going really, really small with:
Dinwiddie
Thomas
Bridges
O’Neale
Finney-Smith – 8:54 PM

Ben Simmons has taken three shots in the first two minutes of the game.
He’s pressing the issue. Nice to see.
Next step is finishing strong towards the rim instead of pulling up for these hooks. – 8:47 PM

Nets starters for tonight’s game at Dallas:
Spencer Dinwiddie
Cam Thomas
Mikal Bridges
Dorian Finney-Smith
Ben Simmons
Cam Thomas gets the nod. This will be the seventh start of his NBA career (four last season, two as a rookie). – 8:02 PM

Nice opportunity for Ben Simmons offensively tonight with Nic Claxton out against Dallas.
We should see plenty of Simmons five-out looks surrounded by shooters. Mavs started Maxi Kleber and Grant Willians in the frontcourt Wednesday.
Won’t be an Evan Mobley anchoring the paint. – 12:42 PM

All of Ben Simmons’ shots from last night. You’ll notice one commonality in all the misses:
Fading away from the rim.
This was Ben’s issue last season. The back is supposedly feeling better. At 6’10”, 240 lbs, there has to be much more force and physicality up towards the rim. pic.twitter.com/mtUaMK3ieB10:26 AM

There was a lot of talk from the Nets and Ben Simmons himself about a revenge tour this season, but tonight was more of what we saw last year:
Passing up shots and fading away on the ones he does take, him sitting for large portions of the 2nd half because of it.
Disappointing… – 10:55 PM

Spencer Dinwiddie logged just 1:21 in the fourth quarter, Ben Simmons 1:53. Considering the latter’s well-documented health issues, I asked the latter if he was on a minutes limit, and he said no. Asked if it was a game flow call. “You gotta ask coach.” #nets #nba10:49 PM

More on this storyline

Erik Slater: J.B. Bickerstaff says the conversation surrounding Ben Simmons in recent years has “was unfair”: “He’s a hell of a basketball player… He’s been an All-Star for a reason, he was highly-touted for a reason, and I don’t think that has disappeared as much as people wanna claim.” -via Twitter @erikslater_ / October 25, 2023
Do you feel like Ben Simmons can return to being an All-Star and All-Defensive guy? Spencer Dinwiddie: Yeah, for sure. If you look at his age, he should be getting ready to start peaking now. Then it comes down to health, and you look at who he’s been historically. We need him to be an All-NBA, All-Defensive Team, All-Star-level guy for us to be good. We can’t make any guarantees, but that’s what we need to be a good team. -via HoopsHype / October 25, 2023
