Nick Aldis is determined to be the best general manager he can be.

Nick Aldis was named as the new SmackDown General Manager on October 13. He had been working for the company as a producer since August.

Speaking on WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick, Nick Aldis discussed landing with WWE and starting with the company as a producer.

“I was knocking on the door at WWE for years,” Nick Aldis said. “For whatever reason, the opportunity just wasn’t there. Finally, at the end of last year, I decided to give my notice at my previous place, the NWA, and say, ‘Okay, it’s sort of now or never. I’m going to try to reach out to WWE.’ I reached out to Triple H, and between then and when I finally came in, I had some conversations with Bruce Prichard, and it was sort of, ‘Sit tight. Maybe there’s something. We’ll think about it.’

“I stayed busy, I had another little run at IMPACT that was really good and I thought was very productive. Then the opportunity came in the form of being a producer, and I was very, very grateful for that opportunity because I’ve enjoyed working behind the scenes, especially at the NWA. I wore a lot of hats there for the last few years, so I really got into the process of producing and thinking about things on more than just the surface level. So I was very open to that being the opportunity and that being it.”

Nick Aldis On Finding Out About GM Role

Nick Aldis continued by stating that he was very grateful when Bruce Prichard told him about the opportunity to be the General Manager of WWE SmackDown. He vowed to be the best General Manager WWE has ever seen.

“I was very, very grateful when Bruce pulled me out of a meeting,” Nick Aldis said. “He said, ‘We’ve got this idea, we’ve got something in mind.’ Then, a few weeks later, they called again, ‘General Manager of SmackDown.’ I just went, ‘Love it. Great. Give it to me.’ [Laughs] Opportunity comes in many shapes and sizes, and you can’t spend time dwelling on things that didn’t happen for you or why.

“You can’t control what opportunities come your way. But you can only control what you do with those opportunities. Here we are in the early days of this opportunity, but I intend to make the very most of it and be the best general manager that I can be and the best general manager WWE’s ever seen.”
