Altogether, the concept produces a peak horsepower figure of 365, which is more than 100 hp above what the twin-turbo FD RX-7 managed. Sure, the concept is roughly 240 lbs heavier than the RX-7 was, but that’s a negligible weight gain for a car replacing something that went off the market 20 years ago.

Mazda has not confirmed if this will reach production, but at the concept’s reveal, the automaker promised to “always deliver vehicles that remind people that cars are pure joy and an indispensable part of their lives.”

Hopefully, this is an indication that Mazda will soon introduce new rotaries for sporting applications. It already sells the world’s most popular sports car, and adding another option can only be good for bolstering those figures.
