A Montreal woman has become the newest record-holder for the deepest underwater model photoshoot. The achievement was certified this week by Guinness World Records Limited.
Kim Bruneau, along with photographer Pia Oyarzun, broke the record on Dec. 5 when they were in Nassau, Bahamas and descended to a depth of 40.2 metres underwater.

“In order for Kim to pose for the underwater photos, she had to remove her mask and hold her breath between each shot taken by underwater photographer and colleague, Pia,” Guinness said in a statement announcing the record.

Bruneau, who is a certified AIDA Level 3 Free Diver and Master Diver with Deep Diving Certification, told the Toronto Sun newspaper that after the birth of her second child, she saw the record for deepest underwater model photoshoot — yes, there already was one — and decided she wanted to beat it.
And so she and Oyarzun visited the wreck of the Sea Trader in Nassau, along with a captain and safety diver, and a witness to confirm the record. They took dozens of photos.
“The memories it created, it’s awesome,” she told the Sun. “I’ve done modelling for a couple years but these are epic. This is the kind of portfolio I want to have.”
The previous record holders were model Mareesha Klups and photographer Steven Haining, who went 30 metres down in Georgian Bay and Lake Huron in September.
